Blurry Photos
Claritas detects blurry and motion-blurred photos on your iPhone with a two-step on-device check, so you can delete them in bulk.
Claritas finds blurry photos with a two-step on-device check. A fast sharpness test flags candidates, then Apple's Vision framework confirms them at higher resolution, looking at face quality, the main subject and motion blur. Only confident results are shown, so sharp photos with soft backgrounds are left alone.
How to use Blurry Photos
- Open the Blurry card on Home.
- Review the grid. Tap any photo to view it full screen and pinch to zoom.
- Select the photos you want to remove and tap Delete.
The first pass measures edge sharpness on a thumbnail. Candidates then go through a second Vision check that looks at the face, the salient subject and tiled motion blur. A photo is only listed when the detector is at least 65% confident, which keeps portrait-mode shots with blurred backgrounds out of the list.

Frequently asked questions
Will portrait-mode photos be flagged as blurry?
The second check focuses on the main subject and faces, so a sharp subject with a blurred background is generally not flagged.
Are my photos uploaded to check for blur?
No. Both steps run on your iPhone.
